Silverado Had One Way In. Now It Has Three.
Until 2021, Silverado had a single access point, and CREB called traffic in and out of the community challenging. That year it had three ways in, from Spruce Meadows, from 194 Avenue SW off Macleod Trail, and from Sheriff King Street on the east side.
That's why we ask for your street before anything else. Pick the entrance before the truck rolls. Spruce Meadows hosts show jumping and Cavalry FC home games, so on an event day we'd plan to come in from 194 Avenue or Sheriff King Street.
Macleod Trail meets 194 Avenue at an intersection today. The City has designed an interchange there, and its project page says the interchange is not funded for construction.
Families, Owners and Young Houses
The City's 2021 census profile draws a clear picture. 7,975 people live in 2,545 households. A quarter of residents are 14 or younger, against 18% across Calgary, and only 6% are 65 or older, against 13% citywide. 87% of homes are owner-occupied, compared with 69% for the city.
The houses are young too. 57% were built between 2001 and 2010, 28% between 2011 and 2015, and 13% between 2016 and 2021. The City lists 99% of them as needing only regular or minor maintenance.
For a move, that means kids' rooms, a school calendar and a full house of furniture. Ron Southern School teaches kindergarten to grade 6 and Holy Child School teaches kindergarten to grade 9, both inside the community. Move before the school year starts if you can, and book well ahead of late August.
Townhomes, Front Garages and Condo Blocks
Qualico built Silverado as a master-planned community themed on Spruce Meadows and ranching heritage, with construction starting in 2005. CREB described it as nearing completion in 2021. The housing runs from apartment-style condos to estate homes, with detached and semi-detached front-garage homes and townhomes in between.
Each one loads differently. A front-garage home puts the driveway right at the door, so the carry is short. A townhome means inside stairs. A condo means a booked elevator and the building's move-in window. Tell us which you have, and we'll plan the crew time around it.
Living Next to Spruce Meadows
Spruce Meadows sits right on Silverado's west edge. Residents can walk to it, a lot of homes have mountain views, and some catch an event from the back deck.
The neighbour shaped the community. The owners of Spruce Meadows pushed for a wetlands reserve between the homes and the grounds, and City Council approved it in 2004. They didn't get the bigger setback they asked for. Green space and pathways run through the community today.
Getting There From Midnapore
Midlake Boulevard meets Macleod Trail at the Shawnessy Boulevard interchange, right by our office. From there it's south on Macleod, past Stoney Trail, then west on 194 Avenue SW. Silverado sits south of Stoney Trail, west of Sheriff King Street, north of 194 Avenue SW and east of Spruce Meadows. The middle of the community is about 3.3 km from our office in a straight line.
Silverado Marketplace has a Sobeys and a Shoppers Drug Mart. The big Shawnessy stores and the Shawnessy YMCA are about five minutes north, and the South Health Campus is a short drive southeast in Seton. Two Red Line LRT stations are planned near 210 Avenue, though the City hasn't set funding or a timeline.
