Most of Walden Is Less Than Fifteen Years Old
Calgary City Council gave Walden its final approval in July 2007, with construction expected to start in 2008. Genstar planned it, and the name comes from Thoreau's book Walden.
The City of Calgary's 2021 census profile shows how recent the building has been. 52% of Walden's homes were built between 2016 and 2021, and another 38% between 2011 and 2015. Just 9% are older than that. Only 1% of dwellings need major repairs.

If you're buying new in Walden, keep a few days of overlap with your old place, or plan on storage for the gap. Walden has a naturalized wetland and a clear-water pond, and its pathways connect to the Walden ponds and to Fish Creek Provincial Park. The plan for the community includes a 160-acre park system across three villages.
Shopping is close. The Gates of Walden has grocery stores, restaurants and coffee shops, and Genstar describes a shopping district just south of 210 Avenue with more than 65 shops, restaurants and services. The first night's groceries won't be a long drive.

Walden lies south of 194 Avenue SE. Macleod Trail runs along its west side, the Bow River valley along its east and Legacy is directly south. Chaparral, Silverado and Cranston are its other neighbours.
